------------------------------------ Alone, zoo, food=good The last five days have been bannerific. I've played the part of Single Mom and feel like I've finally earned my maternal carrying card. My only complaint: sheer exhaustion. Lisher went to Wyoming for a conference on Thursday and is getting home late tonight. So it's been me and the ladies, partying. Pretending we're single. On Saturday we went to the Zoo. I think my excitement was contagious because the girls had a great time. They pointed and waved, made animal-appropriate sounds and clapped especially excitedly for the monkeys, giraffe and cheetah. We've gotten out of the house and to daycare by 9 am as well. Not an easy task considering how many times I have to run up/down stairs all before my morning caffeination. I've been treating myself at Black n'Brew, the local coffeeshop, for 10 minutes of contemplation (ok, making my list for the day slash checking the blackberry). We've gotten a lot more experimental with food lately as well. The girls started rejecting baby food, so I've been giving them random assortments of adult yum. Table scraps are to dogs as "finger foods" are to babies. Mac n'cheese is a big winner, as are teeny chunks of Morningstar Farms garden burgers and chick'n nuggets. They also love peas. Tonight corn and watermelon chunks made it taste as appropriately summery as it feels. I'm happy because my anxiety level regarding age-appropriate food is way down. The major issue is figuring out how much to give, considering half of it falls out of their lap when I lift 'em out of the highchairs. 8:49 p.m. 2007-10-09
