------------------------------------ City of Detroit Rock Love Remind me when I complain about Philadelphia that I once visited Detroit. I find it easy to exaggerate my issues with Philly, where I've lived for 5 years now. Philly does not hold a candle to the problems I saw in Detroit, which is most likely compounded by the 7.5% unemployment rate in Michigan. In Detroit, it's 7.9%. All cities have problems. Detroit's felt wide-spread and rampant, from the miserable shape of their highways to the derelict-filled casinos and block after block of burned-out or boarded up buildings and houses. Depressing would be an apt word. So . . . (a little light through this tunnel) I'm really happy to say that the wedding was fabulous. It was the highlight of October for me. A beautiful couple, her gorgeous dress, amazing weather, and seriously awesome reception (that fit the 60s-ish look I was going for very well). Plus, the dance floor elevated so during the bride and groom's first number it looked like they were floating above everyone. And it even acted as my 10-year reunion from college. . . though I have to admit my recall is terrible so I did a bunch of extenda-hellos (you know the elongated yet smiley "heeeeeey!" usually followed with a "what have you been up to?") I don't think anyone remembered my name either, just that I looked familiar from some frat parties. Scotch 'n ginger libmom returned, if just for an evening. And now working libmom is back in action . . . Raleigh tonight and tomorrow. Cleveland, Columbus and Montreal next week. (Boots, are you out there?) Followed by San Fran and Boston. I need to sleep now and consider reevaluating my work travel schedule for next year. I miss the ladies. 8:28 p.m. 2007-10-25
