------------------------------------ Memory Season, part 1 Lisher and I realized that we do not have the most baby-friendly names for things. And I know that if I don't start remembering this stuff now, it will go into the black hole of Parental Void. Some examples: * the "pack and play" is known in our house as The Crate. Usage: "Ok ladies, you need to play in the crate while I speed-pee." * any consumption of food by babies we call a feeding. Back in the day, people commented that we could run a well-regulated zoo. "Ok baby monkeys, time for your 4 a.m. feeding!" * every morning we put the girls in their Exersaucers -- known to us as the Work Stations. Lisher named it such because the ladies acutally seem to, well, work. * this one is slightly weird. When I was breastfeeding, I used a boppy pillow made for twins; extra large for double feeds (insert human cow joke here). We called the boppy the Rings of Saturn. No matter it was only one ring, and actually only maybe three-quarters of a ring at that, with a handy strap so I could fasten it on. It was more of a boob shelf come to think of it. Please erase that image from your mind. Imagine this instead: while wearing the Rings of Saturn, cell phone buzzes in other room. Babies asleep on bed. Longing for adult conversation, I bolt from the room only to get stuck in the doorway. True story. 10:27 p.m. 2007-07-23
